Dunk cancels Bogle opener as Albion draw 1-1 with Leeds

Brighton & Hove Albion fought back from a halftime deficit to extend their formidable home record against Leeds United, with the two sides settling for a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium.

The opening period saw Leeds take the lead through Jayden Bogle, who became the first visiting player to find the net at the Amex since November 2012.

That previous goal had arrived via a deflection off Luciano Becchio from a shot by Michael Brown.

Defender Pascal Struijk made his Premier League debut for Brighton against the club he departed during the summer transfer window.

The former Leeds player was met with jeers from the away end upon his introduction, while the visiting supporters also directed their frustration toward match official Stuart Attwell throughout the contest.

Struijk subsequently visited the Leeds dressing room post-match to reconnect with former teammates.

Brighton’s pursuit of an equaliser prompted managerial plans to introduce substitutes Promise David and Costinha, though the double substitution was temporarily suspended when the hosts drew level.

Substitution protocols typically require cancellation when a team scores, and in this instance the changes had been prepared in an attempt to press for a winning goal.

However, Brighton’s leveller interrupted the tactical adjustment.

The hosts had been creating opportunities despite lacking natural width, with Leeds supporters at the opposite end of the stadium also celebrating what appeared to be a goal from their side.

Additionally, Ao Tanaka’s effort was ruled out for the visitors, meaning the away contingent had reason to celebrate on multiple occasions throughout the contest.

The fixture saw Brighton operate without a recognised winger for the first time this campaign.

Ibrahim Osman and Miah Oriola remained unused among the substitutes, while new arrival Femi Azeez observed proceedings from the stands after completing his deadline-day transfer, nursing a minor injury.

Despite the absence of traditional wide players, Brighton’s squad possessed individuals capable of delivering from more central positions, generating several promising situations.

Olivier Boscagli crafted clear opportunities for his teammates, while David and Diego Gomez also went close.
